Costly and unreliable electricity is a challenge for many remote communities. Fossil-fuel power also harms our environment and hinders emission goals in the Philippines.
Power that keeps the connection up
An internet connection is only as reliable as the power behind it. We paired satellite internet with solar backup for Barangay Camandag in Leon and for the off-grid island barangay of Malangabang in Concepcion, so the link survives a brownout. Quoted in pesos.
We aim to solve both problems with the solar and backup power systems that drive the Smart Barangay. About 40 kVA of solar is installed across DigiHwy Certainty's Philippine sites so far.
The aim is a carbon-neutral footprint while digitalising, so connecting a community does not come at the cost of its environment.
